ZA Certification for Meat Export
ZA certification is a mandatory requirement for exporting meat from South Africa, regulated by the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development. It ensures compliance with the Meat Safety Act, 2000 and international food safety standards.
Facilities must be inspected and approved by a state veterinarian, confirming they meet strict hygiene, disease control, and food safety requirements. Certification is typically valid for one year and requires ongoing compliance.
Each export shipment must include a veterinary health certificate and export permit, verifying that the product meets the importing country’s standards.
ZA certification applies to abattoirs, processing plants, cold storage, and packaging facilities, and may be supported by additional standards such as FSSC 22000, SANS 885, or Halaal certification.
This certification enables South African exporters to access global markets while ensuring product safety, quality, and traceability.
